We traveled from kings canyon back along the Ernest Giles road and stopped at the Henbury meteorite craters. They were a nice break from sitting in the car and gave us a chance to stretch out the legs doing the 20 min walk around the rim of the crater.
We had lunch, cheesy toast and tomato soup trying to wave the flies away. Then we drove on into Alice springs.
Alice is quite pretty to drive into. I wasn't expecting the town to look like this. There are a lot of aboriginal people living here and they just seem to plonk themselves down wherever they are and just sit around sometimes on their own and other times in a group.
We rang the big4 caravan park as it had great reviews but they wanted to charge us $50 a night for an un powered site. I then rang the heritage campground right next door and got $15 per adult per night and were not charging for children. There was heaps of space to park up. The guy on the phone was much more pleasant and when we rocked up he was even nicer in person. The heritage is awesome for pet owner's. They have a big fenced off greased off leash area just for dogs. We have seen heaps of happy dogs whilst staying here for the last two nights.
We used the two nights to get laundry done, have assume hot showers, fix up some of the lighting and car issues Gaz has wanted to do and to go grocery shopping to top up milk bread and snacks.
Sam saw an airplane coming in for landing as we drove into Alice and we decided to go to the royal flying doctor service museum. Sam loved it. We watched a hologram movie about the RFDS and then got to go through an actual plane on display.
The caravan park had a pool and as soon as Sam saw it he wanted to go in it. Gaz finally said ok I'll take you. Sam got in it sucked the breath out out him, he dog packed around ina circle and got straight out! I missed seeing his expression but it cracked me up hearing about it.
We also bumped into the family from cobar we had camped with at kings canyon, so Sam got to play with the kids again.
We were allowed camp fires in the caravan park in the section where we camped so it's last night we got the fire going and had char grilled chicken pieces steamed veggies and rice.
I like Alice springs. Id like to come back and spend a bit more time exploring around this area.
