Kimberley trip 2015 - the big boab tree

After making the decision to stay another night in the bungle bungle, it meant an early start to head in the general direction of Broome. 5am Malcolm Cindy Frew and Candy were up and packing up. 5:30am  I crawled out of bed and put the kettle on and started packing up.

Around 7am we were almost all packed up when Frew and Candy realised they had a problem with the zip closing their camper trailer. They managed to get it closed but were unsure of they would manage to get it open again. They were trying to decide if they would push through to Broome.

Around 4pm they made the decision to keep pushing through as they had spoken to a repair place that would be able to have a look the next morning at 7:30am. We decided to find the next rest area to camp up for the night and meet up with them the next day. Wet made it to the big boab tree rest area and set up a very basic camp. It was a bitumen rest area with mainly caravans parked up. We found a lid of a bbq and used it as a fire pit. Got a fire going and cooked some chicken drumsticks and rice for dinner.

Sam rode his scooter around and we went to look at the big boab tree in the middle of the rest area. It was a pretty impressive tree. Just a pity that people kept carving their names into the trunk.

We had an early night and then a nice leisurely wake up and were on the road the next morning by 8am.

The others had made it into Broome and were organising a spot for all of us at the cable beach caravan park.
