Canal creek to Bramwell Station

After a very leisurely start to the day we decided that we would pack up and head south rather than stay another night. We left Canal creek around 11:40am and drove up the road to fruit bat falls where we stopped and had a swim and some lunch.

Fruit bat falls are definitely worth stopping and having a swim at, but they are accessible to tourist buses and general public not 4wd only so expect to be sharing with a number of people.

We then took our time back along the Bamaga development road. Lots of corrugations - at times I was thinking it would have been better to go back along the telegraph track!

We stopped for a look at a memorial directly opposite the Gunshot bypass road. Then we kept driving to Bramwell Station.

When we started our journey on the OTT we had stopped at the Bramwell Roadhouse to fuel up and so Sam could have an ice cream and it was here we really started chatting with the Gray family and made the decision to do the track. You can camp at the roadhouse or you can travel another couple of km to Bramwell Station. The owner of the roadhouse seemed a little bit nasty - we heard him speaking to his staff in not a very nice manner and it was probably this that made us press on to stay at Bramwell Station rather than the roadhouse. And I'm happy we did!

The Station was a lovely spot to stop and they have a bar and kitchen where you can buy dinner between 6pm and 8pm and breakfast in the morning. By the time we got into the station it was just after 4pm so someone else cooking dinner sounded great. We got setup near the back boundary of the property, went for a family shower in the bush shower/toilet area nice hot water, then went and had a sit down dinner of steak, salads and potatoes with a nice bottle of wine.

We chatted with some of the other campers having a drink at the bar then wandered back across the grass to our campsite and had an early night. We had set up the tent in its simplest setup so we expected to pack up fairly quick the next day. Destination Musgrave roadhouse.
