The Gray family had to make their trip back home so were up early and starting to pack up. We had decided to leave the camper trailer at Alau Beach and just take the car to the tip. We had a cruisy breakfast and coffee and then jumped in the car to follow the others up to the tip.
We stopped off to look at the plane wrecks from WW II a DC3 and a Beaufort bomber plus all the fuel drums lying around in the bush. And you wouldn't believe if but we bumped into the young blokes again!
From the wrecks we headed up to the tip Pajinka, and again met the young blokes although they had already been on the walk out and back.
We did stop at the croc tent to pick up some souvenirs.
The walk over the hills to the Tip of Australia is beautiful awesome views of the beaches and islands. We were lucky it was overcast in some ways as in the heat it would be harder. Sam was a big boy and walked the whole track there all by himself! I kept telling him what a big boy he was. He kept in with his favourite saying. "I want to do it!"
We took all the obligatory photos at the sign explored a little then walked back over to the beach where we had a photo with the Gray family and said our goodbyes.
We will definitely try to keep in contact with the Grays and possibly hook up again for an adventure maybe in the Victorian highlands? If we hadn't bumped into them we probably wouldn't have done the telegraph track.
After saying goodbye we went our separate ways. We decided to explore over to Punsand Beach where we had lunch and a beer at the licenced restaurant in the camp ground. The campground looked lovely so we decided to book in there for Wednesday night. The camp ground also has a swimming pool which is a bonus!
Then we started to drive back to our campsite when wouldn't you know it we bumped into Paul again in Bamaga. He was staying out at Loyalty Beach with Jeff and Rhiannon the young couple with the black jeep that we had also been bumping into since Laura.
Paul, Jeff and Rhiannon had driven on from Sams creek and had all managed to complete the full Tele track by doing the Nolans crossing.
We chatted with Paul a while and he said they were all looking at doing the trip to Thursday island. We had been umming and ahhing about doing this trip as it is quite expensive, but later we spoke with our neighbours at Alau who had just come back from Thursday island and we've made up our minds to do it pending space on the ferry.
We had to go back to the supermarket and found they had restocked the fridges and we were able to pick
Up some chicken drumsticks which we cooked up for dinner in the camp oven on a fire on the beach.
Prior to that we had a lovely evening stroll along the beach and spotted a shark racing along the waters edge. I freaked out at first thinking it might be a crocodile rushing up to the beach but we saw a dorsal fin and heaps of fish leaping out of the way.
So warm at night. Every time I've gone for a shower at the campground the hot water has run out but because it's so warm it really doesn't matter. I'm loving this!
