Telegraph track - Ducie creek to Elliot Falls via Gunshot!

Yes we did gunshot! Not the main gunshot but one if the side passes which is just as good. So we can now add the sticker to the camper trailer.

We left Ducie creek around 9am after spending the evening before getting acquainted with our new travel companions. Simon, Susan, Jacob, Esther, Ethan, Sarah and Micah.

There were some gorgeous river crossings and the water was so warm and clear.

We caught up with the young guys that followed us through Palm creek. They had done the actual gunshot drop but they didn't have camper trailers in tow. I got some good pictures and of course video footage of Gaz coming down gunshot!

We had lunch at gunshot and then made the decision to head for Elliot falls for the night. It was amazing how quick time had passed just as we were almost at gunshot it had been 11:30am and by the time we got going again it was nearly 2 pm!

The next funny time was at Cockatoo creek where there were crocodile signs everywhere so we parked up to go and look at the crossing to find a bunch if local aboriginals all relaxing sitting in the middle of the river. Gaz and Simon did the walk across and then as they were coming back the locals started cackling. I looked down to see sam doing a piddle in the water - the were laughing at the little white boy doing a wee.

We went back to the cars and Simons lot went through first one of the locals was helping out standing on the rock you need to drive towards before taking a right onto the track. Then we lined up for the crossing then suddenly they saw a fish in the water and were all chasing it trying to catch it with their hands. It was fun to watch.

Then we did our crossing guided once again and parked up on the other side for a toilet break. Then a Dutch or German guy drive up from the other direction in a britz camper. He started asking about the crossing but didn't really seem to be listening. We learnt later that he just barged on through the crossing and didn't take much direction from anyone. He powered on through the exit bouncing and banging away.

We kept going and ended up at Elliot falls around 4:30pm. It had been raining off and on and everyone was tired. The camping spots were all numbered for this new scheme where you have to pre book. No one we have spoken to during the trip has pre booked and I really don't think that system can work up in the Cape.

We said stuff it and picked a large site that would fit us all. We were setting up when one of the young blokes pulled up along side. He ended up setting up with us too. His name was Paul from Fivedock in Sydney.

The kids were all playing together, we all got set up then settled in for a few drinks under our awning. It was a later night but good to all relax.

Our plans for the next day were to go along the track to Sams creek and then come back up to Bamaga Rd. We had decided not to do Nolans brook as most people attempting it were drowning their cars. There had been a notation that 40 cars were at Bamaga waiting to be transported on the Barge back to Cairns.
