Lions Den to Rocky Creek Memorial Park

Via the Bloomfield track and the Daintree.

A late start 11am on the road after packing up, and having a coffee at the pub. Gaz had to wire up the exhaust after discovering all bar half of a mount to the exhaust had broken.

We drove towards Bloomfield and the track that would take us across to Cape Tribulation. It's such a beautiful part of the world. The track is very steep in parts and I tried to get a video of how steep it was but it's really hard to show.

The sun was out and the line between sky and sea was difficult to determine at times. The bush was really thick and real rainforest just gorgeous!

The track only took around an hour and a half and only about 32km of it was rough stuff. We got over the other side and stopped beachfront just past Cape Tribulation to have sandwiches and a cup of coffee for lunch.

Then we drove through the Daintree and were surprised by the Daintree ferry crossing it was just suddenly there and we were crossing the river then we were asked for a ticket. I don't remember seeing any signs asking for payment but once over the other side I saw them. At least it was cheaper than the Jardine ferry it cost $17 one way for the car and trailer.

As we drove along te coast line towards Cairns we pulled into a caravan park as we thought it would be nice to spend our last night near the coast right on the beach front but everything was booked out and really cramped so we decided to keep travelling.

I had keyed in Rocky creek memorial park just past Mareeba when we had first left from lions den so we decided to keep going.

We stopped in Mareeba and got McDonalds for dinner - Sam had spotted the golden arches a mile away.

Then we kept on and got to Rocky creek around 6 pm. It was packed! We managed to get a space but if was closer to the main road and you could hear the traffic throughout the night. Another thing that we have been having is when we park up on slightly sloping ground the legs either are too long and you have to take them out or they are too short and you have to find blocks of wood or stones to chock them up. We parked the trailer on slightly sloping ground and had to remove the legs from the back. Solution is to park the trailer around the other way!

Anyway I wouldn't recommend Rocky Creek memorial park I think it's just too crowded and to close to the highway - oh and we had a neighbour the decided to run a generator all night! What do you think is etiquette for running a generator on a free camp site?
